Cecil Clayton Carpenter, 71, Humboldt, died Monday, August 18, 2008, at Via-Christi St. Francis Campus, Wichita.

He was born Aug. 8, 1937, in Americus to Martin Edmund and Mary Jane Ensminger Carpenter. He graduated from Moran High School.

He married Ruth Thomas on June 23, 1962. They divorced.

He retired from the Water Treatment Department with the City of Humboldt.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Shane and Stacy Carpenter and Clayton and Julie Carpenter, all of Chanute; three granddaughters, Kaleena Cummings, Jenny Shultz and Siara Carpenter, all of Chanute; two great-grandchildren, Kilee and Gage Cummings; four brothers and sisters-in-law, George and Geraldine Carpenter, Shelbina, Mo., Bob and Linda Carpenter, El Dorado Springs, Mo., Jerry and Cheryl Carpenter, El Dorado Springs, Mo., and Alan and Vicky Carpenter, Dixon, Mo.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Lillie and Doug Olson, Nevada, Mo., and Kay and Dean Hurshman, Lee’s Summit, Mo.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and Lawrence; and a sister-in-law, Hazel Carpenter.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Friday at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt under the direction of Penwell-Gabel Humboldt Chapel.

Contributions to the Humboldt Historical Society may be left with the funeral home.
