Ruth M. Serrato, 87, Chanute, died Friday, August 15, 2008.

She was born Oct. 22, 1920, in Chanute to Albino and Mary Negrete Abaloz. She attended Chanute public schools.

She married Alfred O. Serrato on Nov. 1, 1947, in Erie. He survives.

She was a homemaker.

Other survivors include three sons and a daughter-in-law, William J. Gutierrez and Richard Serrato, both of Chanute, and John and Pat Serrato, Independence, Mo.; two daughters, Gloria Serrato Ysusi, Kansas City, Kan., and Rita Serrato De La Torre, Chanute; 11 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Hope Padilla, Kansas City, Kan.; and a brother, Ted Abaloz, Australia.

She was preceded in death by five brothers, a sister, a daughter and two grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be recited at 10 a.m. today at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Chanute. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Penwell-Gabel Gibson Chapel.

Contributions may be made to the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in care of the funeral home.
