Emma Catherine Sanderson, 89, Humboldt, died Saturday, May 5, 2012, at Arrowood Lane in Humboldt.

She was one of nine children born to Paul Otto and Flossie Blanche Penwell Joy on April 29, 1923 at Fredonia.

On May 5, 1942, Emma married Lawrence Morris Sanderson in Newton. They made their home in Iola most of their married lives. They moved to Humboldt in 1994. Her husband preceded her in death on July 5, 1998.

Emma was mostly a homemaker. She worked as a housekeeper at Allen County Hospital for 10 years.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Humbold.

Survivors include two sons, Larry Sanderson, Olathe, and Bill Sanderson, Humboldt; two daughters, Jacque Striker, Spring Hill, and Annette Cole, LaHarpe; a brother, Paul Otto Joy, Wellington; 47 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by a grandson James Lee Cole.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday, May 10 at the First Baptist Church in Humboldt, where the family will receive friends an hour prior to the service.

Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Iola.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Humboldt and may be left with the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola.
