Martha J. “Martie” Richardson, 68, Independence, formerly of Fredonia, died Thursday, May 17, 2012 at Montgomery Place in Independence. She was born April 14, 1944 in Fredonia, the daughter of Glenn R. and Mildred Mohe Russell Noakes. Martie was a graduate of Fredonia High School and attended Coffeyville Junior College and Wichita State University. She owned and operated Bookworm Gently Used Books in Independence for many years.

Martha was joined in marriage to Clinton Richardson. He preceded her in death March 27, 1993, and her son, Glenn, preceded her in death Sept. 6, 2000. Martie and her longtime companion, Harry Nelson, made their home in Independence.

Martie was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Fredonia.

Survivors, in addition to Harry include her sister: Bette J. Russell, Topeka, and a neice.

Graveside service was 11 a.m. Monday, May 21 at Fredonia City Cemetery. A memorial has been established in Martie’s name with the VFW Ladies Auxiliary #1186 and donations can be sent to Timmons Funeral Home, PO Box 168, Fredonia, KS 66736.
