Virginia Madison Potocnik, 85, Cherokee, died Sunday, June 17, 2012 at the Neosho Regional Medical Center in Chanute.
She was born April 14, 1927 in Cherokee, the daughter of Mary Garretson Kellogg.
On March 4, 1944 she was united in marriage to Rudy Potocnik; he preceded her in death on Oct. 6, 1996.
She was an assistant cook at the Cherokee Grade School for 40 years.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cherokee, where she was very active. She loved yard work and was a skilled quilter. She enjoyed time spent with her family, grandchildren and church family, especially the time she spent fishing with her husband, Rudy.
Survivors include two sons, Rudy Potocnik, Jr., and wife, Linda, Chanute, and James Lee Potocnik and wife, Katie, Altamont; a sister, Betty Serra, Capaldo; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a son Bobby Potocnik, two sisters, Fern Traylor and Hazel Altum, and a brother Junior Madison.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 20 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Weir with the Rev. Jamie Tickel officiating. Burial will follow in the Cherokee City Cemetery.
