Bettie Marie Horton, 84, Phoenix, Ariz., died May 29, 2012 at Fellowship Square Care Home in Phoenix.
She was born Aug. 13, 1927 at Grey Gable Ranch, in Virgil. She was the daughter of Roy and Elma Horton. After graduating from Moreland High School and obtaining a Master’s degree from The University of Colorado, she was employed by the federal government to teach at the Shonto Boarding School for Indian children in Arizona, while making her home in Page.
Upon retiring, she moved to Fellowship Square, a Christian church sponsored retirement center in Phoenix, where she was very active in the activities there.
She was a member of and very active in the Desert Christian Fellowship Church in Phoenix.
She enjoyed traveling, playing the organ and furnishing transportation to those in need.
Survivors include a brother, Don Horton, Chanute; a nephew, Larry Horton and wife, Tracey, Chanute; two cousins, Ralph Johnson, Atlanta, Ga., and Eleanor Mullen, Ottawa.
Preceding her in death were her parents, a cousin Gary Johnson, four uncles and one aunt.
Cremation has taken place. Besides a memorial service in her church in Phoenix. A private graveside service will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery in Chanute at a later date.
