Susan Pauline Naff, 86, Humboldt, passed away Thursday, February 5, 2009, at the Windsor Place Nursing Home in Iola.

Pauline was born Feb. 26, 1922, in Rural Neosho County, east of Chanute, to Leon Ross and Belle Headrick Tolbert.

She graduated from Chanute High School in 1940 and attended Chanute Junior College.

Pauline was united in marriage to Walter Lewis Naff on Nov. 3, 1946, in the Chanute Christian Church. He preceded her in death in January 2003.

Prior to her marriage, Pauline was employed by J.J. Newberry in Chanute and The Byrd Clark Agency in Erie. She was employed by H.K. Porter in 1964 and retired in 1987.

Highlights of her life were her children and grandchildren.

She loved gardening, refinishing furniture, quilting, and especially, her family.

Pauline is survived by four sons, Steven of Topeka, John of Humboldt, Jerry and his wife Rhonda of Humboldt, and Stan of Chanute; seven grandchildren, Matthew Naff of Chanute, Michael Naff of Humboldt, Melissa White and her husband Peter of Wichita, Audrey Gilligan and her husband Eric of Chanute, Danner Naff of Humboldt, Matthew Alan Naff and his wife Janet of Chanute and Clayton Palet and his wife Janae of Chanute; great-grandchildren, Kamri and Karter Naff of Chanute, Brittney, Gracie and Josie Palet of Chanute, and Simon and Cabrini White of Wichita.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Walter; two sisters, Mary Wickham and Annabelle Tolbert; a brother-in-law, Woodrow Youngberg; and a nephew Bill Wickham.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 9, 2009, at the Penwell-Gabel Humboldt Chapel. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009, from 7 until 8 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Humboldt Chapel.

Memorials in her name may be made to Cherry Street Youth Center and may be left with the funeral home.
