Following surgical complications while on vacation, Kimberly Allen Bumstead, 54, Stafford, Va., died July 18, 2012, in a Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, hospital.
Born Oct. 16, 1957, in Pontiac, Mich., to the Rev. Ronald and Connie Bumstead, Humboldt, he was a graduate of Humboldt High School. Kim attended Allen County Community College and Pittsburg State University and received a Bachelor’s degree from Kansas State University and a Master’s degree from Southeastern Oklahoma State University, Durant, Okla.
Kim worked for the federal government for almost 20 years as an auditor and most recently as an investigator for the Federal Communications Commission in Washington, D.C. He also worked as a reporter, managing editor and photographer for several Kansas newspapers. Since high school, he spent many hours taking photographs especially focusing on nature.
Besides his parents, he is survived by his wife of 26 years, Pam; a daughter, Erin Upton; a son, Bryan Bumstead; and two granddaughters, all of Stafford, Va.; three brothers, Ronald Bumstead, Jr., Humboldt; Kevin Bumstead, Aurora, Colo.; and Jonathan Bumstead, Shawnee Mission; a sister, Beth Cave, Pittsburg; and several nieces and nephews.
A cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3 at the Humboldt United Methodist Church. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 4 at the church followed by burial in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Humboldt.
