Roy Lee Evans, 83, Clinton, Mo., died Wednesday, February 18, 2009, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City.

He was born in Chanute to Thomas and Edith Crowell Evans. He moved his family to Madison in 1962 and helped construct the Madison Elementary School.

He married Marie Norris McIlvain. They were divorced. He married Doris Dalton. She survives.

He retired from West Central as an inspector.

His passions in life were hunting, fishing, camping and his family. He will be missed by many as an avid teacher of the art of fishing to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Other survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Connie Evans and John and Brenda Evans, all of Madison, Don and Susan Evans, Clinton, Mo., Ron and Patty Evans, Riverdale, Calif., and Tom and Shiela Evans, Rockville, Mo.; his stepsons and their wives, Dennis and Liz Witherspoon, Foss, Okla., and Dwayne and Mary Witherspoon, Osceola, Mo.; his stepdaughters and their husbands, Darlene and Brian Herron and Jo Ann Taylor, both of Clinton, Mo.; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Dean and Arlene Evans, Chanute, and Eugene and Sherry Evans, Fall River; a sister and brother-in-law, Juanita and Wayne Ward, Genieva, Neb.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Dena Marie; and a brother, Albert Evans.

Funeral was Feb. 21 at Vansant-Mills Chapel, Clinton, Mo., with burial in Deepwater, Mo. Arrangements were under the direction of Vansant-Mills Funeral Chapel.
