Lavon M. Elrod, 93, Moran, died Sunday, February 22, 2009, at Heritage Health Center, Chanute.
She was born April 12, 1915, in Winslow, Ariz., to Arthur B. and Gertrude Kimmel McClimans. She graduated from Marfa (Texas) High School in 1932.
She married Jesse Lee Elrod Sr. on Dec. 30, 1932, in Marfa, Texas, and they made their home in Texas for a number of years before moving to Kansas in 1944 while Mr. Elrod served in the military during World War II. He preceded her in death on Oct. 1, 1967.
She was a longtime member of the Presbyterian Church where she served as an elder and taught Sunday school for many years. She was also a member of the PWC of the church, a past member of the Eastern Star and Rebecah Lodges.
She was affiliated with the Moran Public Library for 21 years in various capacities and was the head librarian for 17 years before retiring in 1989.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Jesse L. Jr. and Wilma Elrod, Tulsa, Okla., and Robert A. and Marilyn Elrod, Littleton, Colo.; a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Bruce Jackson, Chanute; a brother, M.D. McClimans, Moran; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, Moran. Burial will follow at the Fort Scott National Cemetery.
The family will greet friends an hour prior to the service time at the funeral home.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Virginia Smith.
