Delbert Leroy Hewitt, 71, of Amsterdam, Mont., formerly of Erie, died Friday, August 24, 2012 at the home of his daughter, Denise.
Born to Thomas C. and Marie G. Nicholas Hewitt on Feb. 4, 1941 in Grand Junction, Colo., Delbert grew up in Erie and Loveland, Colo. He graduated from Erie High School in 1960.
Dec. 25, 1960, Delbert married the love of his life, Francis Edwards in Erie. At that time he worked for Johnson Filling Station and later helped build the Erie Farm Supply and Fertilizer Plant. Delbert made agriculture his life’s work and moved to Colorado. He later followed his passion to Montana, North Dakota, Nebraska and back to Montana where his health failed and he had to retire.
Delbert worked for Con Agra, was a member of the Christian Church, and was a Mason.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Marie Hewitt, wife, Francis, son, Tommy, and brother, Don Hewitt.
He is survived by three daughters, Dana Tillett of Ann Arbor, Mich., Denise Hewitt of Amsterdam, Mont., and Christina Hewitt of Las Vegas, Nev.; five cherished grandsons, Brandon Brown and wife, Laura, Tharron Daniels and wife, Erin, Thom Daniels and wife, Sarah, Dustin Daniels and wife, Taylor, and Samual McGuire; three great-granddaughters, Kelsey Daniels, Ever Daniels and Tayler Skye; one great-grandson, Ryan Daniels; and three adopted great-grandsons, Grant, Nathan and Warren.
Delbert has one surviving brother, John Hewitt of Owasso, Okla., and two sisters, Dorothy Springer and husband, Lee, of Independence, and Phyllis Baker and husband, John, of Pleasant Hill, Calif.
Our family would like to give special thanks to Hospice of South West Montana in Bozeman, Mont., and Journey Hospice of Billings, Mont., for making a huge difference in the quality of Delbert’s life in his last months.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8 at Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service.
