Berva Ellen Ewen Stroud, 90, Chanute, died Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009, at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center.

She was born Sept. 9, 1918, in Urbana to John A. and Edna O. Foster Ewen. She was a graduate of Chanute High School and Chanute Junior College.

She married Harold D. Stroud on July 23, 1950, in Beloit. He survives.

She taught country school for a year, was secretary for the Chanute Junior College (now NCCC) for 42 years and was the secretary-clerk for the Board of Trustees for NCCC.

She was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church.

Other survivors include a nephew, Max Gough; a cousin, Randy Ewen; and several great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Alberta Gough.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Otterbein United Methodist Church in Chanute. Burial will follow in Urbana Cemetery under the direction of Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Contributions may be made to Otterbein United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home.

Harold, So sorry for your loss. I will never forget the first time I met Berva and you at Ashley Clinic Pharmacy and enjoyed each and every time since then. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Donna Miller

So very sorry Stroud...The end of an era of such wonderful people in the Chanute school system. She was the 1st person Marllin met when he came to Juco in the fall of 1957. You are in our thoughts. Mary and Marllin Simon
