Wade W. Mayfield, 91, Chanute, died Monday, March 2, 2009, at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center.
He was born March 2, 1918, in Mountain View, Mo., to George and Bertha Black Mayfield. He attended schools in rural Humboldt.
He married Evelyn Emma Willis on March 23, 1942, in Yates Center. She survives.
He served in the U.S. Navy.
He was the owner-operator of Mayfield Greyhound Kennel in Chanute.
He was a member of Living Word Assembly Church, the Kansas Greyhound Association and the American Legion.
Other survivors include a daughter, Marlene Fraley, Lee’s Summit, Mo.; three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Norma Jean Niver, Wichita.
He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Lee Mayfield; and a brother, Paul Mayfield.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Living Word Assembly. Burial will follow in Neosho County Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Penwell-Gabel Gibson Chapel.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the church. He will lie in state until 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
