Helen Irene Carter, 94, of Chanute, died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012 at the Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute.

Helen was born in Shaw on Oct. 6, 1917, the daughter of James and Grace Kyle Allen.

She was united in marriage to Bill Carter on Jan, 27, 1935 in Chanute. He preceded her in death on June 12, 1973.

Helen was a housewife and homemaker.

She was a member of the V.F.W. and American Legion Auxiliaries. She was the first member of the Chanute Women Bowling Hall of Fame, and also enjoyed crafts and watching the St. Louis Cardinals.

Helen is survived by her son, Jim Carter and his wife, Ann, of Chanute; daughter Marjorie Hoffner of Bushkill, Pa.; grandchildren, Beth Chaney of Chanute, Kathy Brooks of Chanute, Vance Carter of Humboldt, Steve Hoffman of Bushkill, Pa., Bill Hoffman of Bushkill, Pa., Sherry Walsh of Albany, N.Y., and Brian Hoffman of Catasaugua, Pa.; 13 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bill, one brother, one sister, one son-in-law Del Hoffner, and a granddaughter, Linda Carter.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 24 at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Monday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials in her name may be made to the Food Pantry at Otterbein United Methodist Church and may be left with the funeral home.
