Lucille Jakubowske, 91, of Humboldt, died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012 at the Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute. Her health had been failing for the past few months. Lucille had been a resident of Arrowood Lanes Assisted Living facility in Humboldt since May 1, 2011.
She was born on May 14, 1921 in a farm house near Kingston, Mich., to immigrant parents, Henry Hergenreder and Katherine Zollner. She had one brother, Eugene, who was two years younger.
Lucille grew up during the great depression and her life was greatly influenced by the circumstances of that time in history. She was not able to finish high school but instead she had to work to help support the family. Her first job while still a teenager was on the assembly line at a food canning factory located in Caro, Mich.
On Dec, 18, 1939, she married Willard Jakubowske of Caro, Mich. When he died in March, 2001 they had been married for 61 years.
During their life together they moved several times for family reasons, living in Michigan, California, Alaska, Florida, Wyoming and Kansas.
Lucille got her start in the field of nursing at a State Hospital in Caro. In later years, while she was employed in hospitals in Corona, Calif., she studied and trained ultimately earning her License Vocational Nurses’ License in 1970.
Her career ended after a few short years due to an injury and health issues. After her husband’s death she lived alone until she moved into assisted living May 1, 2011.
She had two children, daughter Neoma and son Richard. She had seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Neoma Maxwell and her children, Tom Thomas, Brent Thomas, Brenda Spendlove and Clinton Thomas; and her son Richard’s children, Alicia Flickinger, John Jakubowske and Leah Jakubowske.
It was Lucille’s wish to be cremated.
The family will announce a date for Memorial Services in the near future.
