William W. “Bill” McCarty, 87, Chanute, died Friday, March 6, 2009, at the Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita.

He was born Dec. 8, 1921, in Humboldt to William Roy and Lorena Marie Rogers McCarty. He attended schools in Humboldt.

He married Freda Pauline Finley on Nov. 3, 1941, in Iola. She survives.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1940 until 1945.

He worked as a yard foreman for Ash Grove Cement Company for more than 40 years.

Other survivors include two daughters, Pauline Bockover, Chanute, and Pamela Murdock, Pittsburg; many grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. today at Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel.

Contributions may be made to the charity of the Donor’s Choice inc are of the funeral home.
