Virgil H. Solomon, 94, of Chanute, died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012, at Chanute HealthCare Center.
Virgil was born March 2, 1918, at Rose, the son of Fred and Edna Brown Solomon. He grew up on the family farm west of Humboldt before serving in the United States Army during World War II.
On Sept, 16, 1945, Virgil married Carol Shike in Humboldt at the Evangelical Church.They made their home and farmed west of Humboldt. They retired in 1976 and moved to Chanute.
Virgil was a member of the Chanute Church Of The Nazarene,
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Carol E. Solomon of Chanute HealthCare Center; a son, Ron Solomon of rural Yates Center; two daughters, Juanell Garrett and husband, Bob, of Lansing, and Faith Shimko and husband, Andrew, of Wichita; a son-in-law: Gary Smith of Wichita; a brother, Eugene Solomonand wife, Virginia, of Chanute; 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Smith.
Funeral will be 10 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 18 at the Chanute Church of the Nazarene.
Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola.
Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Humboldt,
Memorials are suggested to his granddaughters ministries through Milk & Honey Ministries and may be left with the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola.
