Lawrence “Larry” Robert DeMarea, 66, died of lung cancer on Friday, March 13, 2009, in Chanute.

He was born Oct. 7, 1942, in Kansas City to Mike and Thelma DeMarea. He graduated from Paseo High School in 1960 and earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from the University of Kansas in Art Education.

He taught art for the Kansas City, Mo., Public Schools and the Shawnee Mission Public Schools. For the last several years, he lived in Fredonia and taught part-time at the Neosho County Community College in Chanute.

He was an Eagle Scout and a member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say.

Survivors include two children and their spouses, Peter and Sherri DeMarea, St. Louis, Mo., and Foster and Diana DeMarea Fowler, Macon, Ga.; three grandchildren, Matthew DeMarea, St. Louis, Mo., and Greyson and Powell Foster, Macon, Ga.; and a brother, Michael J. DeMarea Jr., Kansas City.

Honoring his wishes, cremation has taken place and no services will be held. Arrangements are under the direction of Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel.
