Dorothy “Jean” Brooks, 84, of Topeka, died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012.

She was born March 30, 1928 in Chanute, the daughter of Scott and Turrah Bower Neptune. She attended Chanute High School.

She was an active member of the North Topeka Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher for 25 years, was the church clerk for 12 years and was active in Macedonian and Lay Witness Ministries.

Dorothy married Melvin Roy “Bud” Brooks on Oct. 21, 1944 in Chanute. He preceded her in death on August 28, 2010.

Survivors include two daughters, Sandy Howard and husband, Bob, and Melva Jean Mize and husband, Charlie, all of Topeka; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Jeffrey Scott Brooks, Dec. 15, 1996 a great-grandson, Samuel Roy Mize on Sept. 26, 2003 and five siblings.

A funeral ceremony will be 10 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012 at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka, KS 66608.
