Glenda Falkenstien, 73, of Parsons, retired teacher at Labette County High School at Altamont, died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012 at the Elmhaven West Nursing Home in Parsons.

She was born February 20, 1939 in Garfield County, Okla., to Glen O. and Mary Ellen Egelston Serviss. She grew up near Lamont, Okla., and graduated from Lamont High School in 1957. She attended Northern Oklahoma Junior College at Tonkawa and then Oklahoma State University at Stillwater, graduating in 1961.

In the fall of 1961 she began teaching English at Labette County Community High School in Altamont and continued teaching until her retirement 32 years later.

She was a member of the First Christian Church at Lamont.

On June 7, 1975 she married Thomas Falkenstien at Lamont.

Survivors include her husband, of the home; a son, Scott Falkenstien, Chanute; daughters Lynn Schauf, Parsons, and Julie Martin, Kansas City, Kan.; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Ronald Serviss, Munford, Tenn.; sister, Emalee Serviss, Broken Arrow, Okla.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17 at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home, Parsons. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the Labette County High School Citizens Baccalaurete Fund.
