Harry Morgan, 80, Chanute, died Monday, March 16, 2009 at his home.

Harry was born in Vian, Okla., on July 10, 1928, the son of Harry and Velma Moore Morgan. He had been a Chanute resident since 1959, moving to Petrolia in 1990.

He served his country in the U.S. Navy from December 1945 until January 1947 and in the U.S. Army from November 1950 until August 1951.

Harry was united in marriage to Anita Sapan in Commerce, Okla., on June 11, 1948. She survives.

He was a truck driver, starting with Manley Transfer in 1960.

Along with his wife, Anita, of Chanute, he is survived by two sons, Mike Morgan and his wife, Linda, Belton, Mo., and Eldon Morgan of Mobile, Ala.; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister.

He was preceded in death by his parents, six sisters and two brothers.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel in Chanute.

Cremation will follow.

Graveside inurnment will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, March 20 at the Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorials in his name may be made to Chanute Animal Shelter and may be left with the funeral home.

Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

I enjoyed playing golf with Harry. He could really throw a club.
