Bruce Duane Coats, 57, of Chanute, died Thursday, Nov/ 22, 2012 at his home in Chanute.

Bruce was born in Greeley, Colo., on Sept. 24, 1955, the son of Gerald and Doris Baker Coats. He graduated from Cherryvale High School in 1973.

He served his country in the United States Army for nine years.

Bruce was united in marriage to Catherine Ann Courtenay on Feb. 14, 1978 in Alamogordo, N.M. She survives, of the home.

Bruce owned and operated Copwerks where he serviced traffic radar systems.

He enjoyed building and flying kites and loved working on computers and was very efficient working on them.

Along with his wife, Cathy, he is survived by four daughters, Diana Higginbotham and her husband, Phillip, of San Antonio, Texas, Leahanne Coats of Plano, Texas, Marianne Watts and her husband. Tyson of Chanute, and April Coats of Dallas, Texas; five grandchildren; his mother, Doris Coats of Cherryvale; and two sisters, Cathi Spencer and her husband, John, of Jay, Okla., and Karen Holloway of Cherryvale. He was preceded in death by his father.

Graveside service will be 1 p.m.today, Nov. 27 at the Harmony Grove Cemetery in Dennis.

Memorials in his name may be made to the Ronald McDonald House and may be left with the funeral home.
