Gary Reed, 63, of Chanute, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012 at his residence.

Gary was born Chanute on May 15, 1949 the son of Leo Albert and Olive Marie Newton Reed. He attended Thayer schools. On Feb. 24, 2008 he married Teresa Kahler in Chanute.

He loved spending time with his family and fishing with his sons.

Gary was a self-employed auto mechanic.

Gary is survived by his wife, Teresa Kahler-Reed, of the home; two sons, Gary “Pete” and Angela Reed of Chanute, and Michael and Nita Reed of Chanute; and one daughter, Amber Kahler of Chanute; nine grandchildren, Gary Joseph Reed, Brandon M. Reed, Jacob E. Reed, Joshua D. Reed, Ethan M. Reed, C.J. Reed, Brandi M. Reed, Tanner M. Reed, and Emma N. Sander; two stepgrandchildren, Justin Brooks and Damon Brooks; one great-grandson, Jordan M. Reed; four siblings, Bobby and Phyliss Reed, Delories Shrum, Herbert Leon Reed and Kathy Watts, and Dale and Linda Reed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Leona M. Hightower, and one brother-in-law, Turman Shrum.

Cremation has taken place.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15 at the New Life United Brethren in Christ Church.

Memorials in his name may be made to the Autism of the Ozarks and may be left with the funeral home.
