Larry D. Lock, 65, of Chanute, died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012 at KU Medical Center. He was born on March 26, 1947, the son of Ivan and Maxine Hydorn Lock. Larry married Marilyn Tiegreen on August 2, 1968 in Chanute.

He was raised two miles west of the airport, attended the Bunker Hill and Union Valley one-room schools, Midway and in the 9th grade moved to the Chanute school system. He graduated from CHS in 1965. He attended Neosho County Junior College, Kansas State University, and graduated from Emporia State University in 1969 with a BSB. He returned to Emporia to earn his post graduate certification. In 1970 he was hired as the Business teacher at Edson High School in Edson. After the consolidation of schools, he moved back to Chanute and taught business at the Erie High School. He then began working for Churchill Pumping Units in 1974 until its closing as office manager and accounting manager. He worked at various other accounting and business manager positions before becoming the manager of Safari Golf course in 2004. He retired in October of 2008.

Larry was a member of the First Christian Church where he served as a deacon, a Stephen minister, and served on various committees including chair of the membership committee. He also served on the USD 413 School Board for eight years and was president when the school went through its remodeling of the high school. He was active in the Jaycees and served as past president. Larry was selected as a member of the Rotary Group Study Exchange and spent six weeks in the Philippines in February 1981.

His hobbies included golfing, working on their farm with gardening and mowing, and spending time with his family.

Larry is survived by his wife; one daughter, Jennifer Dietsch and husband, Doug, of Chanute; one son, Greg, of the home; two grandsons, Caleb and Cameron Dietsch; one aunt Joan Brubaker, Oceanside Calif.; and numerous cousins, nephews, and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, John and Ronald Lock.

Funeral will be Friday, Dec. 14 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Christian Church. Burial will follow in Neosho County Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be 6:30 until 8 p.m. this evening at the Penwell-Gabel Gibson Chapel.

Memorials in his name may be made to the Larry Lock Scholarship Fund for local students or the First Christian Church and may be left with the funeral home.
