Wendell Wayne Frazell, 87, of Iola died Jan. 1, 2013 in his home.
Wendy was born April 19, 1925 in Iola to the late Jay C. and Ethel M. Baker Frazell. He grew up in Iola and attended the Iola schools.
On Dec. 28, 1944, Wendy married Georgia L. Blohm. Georgia preceded Wendy in death Dec. 28, 2011.
Wendy served in the United States Navy in World War II, from 1943-1945. He was a Coxswain Boatswain’s Mate on the naval ship Allioth. The ship and sailors sailed to Pearl Harbor after its bombing.
Wendy graduated from Pittsburg State University in 1952. He was a teacher and coach at the Uniontown and LyCygne High Schools. He was happy to return to Iola, to teach and coach at the high school in 1962. He also served as the athletic director for several years retiring in 1990.
He is survived by a daughter Linda Monninger and husband, Joe, of Iola; three sons, Kent Frazell and wife, Peggy, of Chanute; Craig Frazell and wife, Sharon, of Kincaid; and Jay Don Frazell and wife, Tammi, of Iola; grandchildren Denise Umphenour and husband, Gary, Lee Anne Ewing and husband, Tom, Scott Monninger; Tara Small and husband, Chad, Clete Frazell and wife, Jill, Curt Frazell and fiance Allison Koehler, Preston Frazell and girlfriend Kelli Campbell, Hunter Frazell, Chelsey Brooks and Connor Frazell; great-grandchildren, Makenzi Umphenour, Madison Umphenour, Sydney Ewing, Brock Small, Cade Small. Bo Small, and Gage Frazell.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Elmer and Clyde Frazell.
Cremation has taken place.
Memorial visitation is 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5 at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel, Iola.
Inurnment at Highland Cemetery, Iola, will be at a later date.
