Evelyn Simmons, 83, of Chanute died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013 at Chanute Healthcare.
Evelyn was born in Cane Hill, Ark., on Jan. 25, 1929 the daughter of Alton and Beulah Whinery Mintz. She married Donald Simmons on Dec. 31, 1948 in Erie. He preceded her in death on March 2, 1992.
She was a homemaker and volunteered for St. Patrick’s Thrift Store for several years. She loved quilting and especially spending time with her family.
Evelyn is survived by five children, Dennis Simmons of Inman, Larry Simmons of Earlton, James Simmons of Oswego, Ronald Simmons of Chanute, and Brenda Simmons of Hollister, Mo.a; 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, Donald Glen Simmons, one daughter, Rhonda Simmons-Montee, two sisters and one brother.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan, 25 at Neosho County Memorial Gardens in Chanute.
Memorials in her name may be made to the Healing Center Church of God and may be left with the funeral home.
