Vyrl “Dean” Evans went to his heavenly home on Jan. 24, 2013 in Derby.

He was born on Dec. 18, 1927 in Chanute, to Tom and Edith Crowl Evans.

Vyrl served his country in the U.S. Army and was a WWII veteran.

After the army, Dean worked for the Kansas Dept of Transportation in Chanute for 44 years.

Dean married Theresa Arlene Norris Evans on June 23, 1951, and they had two children, Michael and Linda.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and managing Little League Baseball and was a member of the American Legion and Elks.

Dean is survived by his wife Arlene; son Michael and his wife, Susan, of Derby; sister Juanita Ward of Geneva, Neb.; brother Eugene Evans and his wife, Sherry, of Chanute; and many loving nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter Linda and brother Roy Lee Evans.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 28 at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel in Chanute. Interment will follow at Neosho County Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials in his name may be made to Otterbein United Methodist Church, Chanute, and may be left with the funeral home.
