Pansy Ward, 101, of Parsons, formerly of Altamont, died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013, at Parsons Presbyterian Manor.

She was born Jan. 31, 1912, in Lawrenceburg, Mo., to William W. and Nancy L. Vanderpool Ballinger. As a young girl, she moved with her family to Chanute, where she grew up and attended school. 

For several years, she worked as a beautician in Sterling before returning to Chanute. In 1985, she moved to Altamont to be near her daughter and, since June of 2007, had resided at Parsons Presbyterian Manor.

She was a member of the Altamont Methodist Church.

She married Harold Hopkins and they later divorced.¬†On Oct. 28, 1945, she and Clark E. “Tuffy” Ward were married in Chanute.¬†He preceded her in death on March 17, 1969.

Survivors include one daughter, Marge Sloan and her husband, Jerry, of Altamont; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Nancy.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13 at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont.  Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery at Chanute. Friends may call at their convenience at the funeral home after 1 p.m. today.
