Idonna WInogene Celestine Holcomb McCarter R.N., 97, of Neodesha, died March 9, 2013 at the Vintage Park in Neodesha.

Celebration of Life Services will be held at 2 today, March 12 at the First United Methodist Church in Neodesha with the Reverend Frank Morgan officiating under the direction of the Loran Fawcett Chapel in Neodesha. Burial will follow in the Neodesha Cemetery.

Visitation hours will be held from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. today at the church.

The family has suggested memorials to the Wilson Medical Center Foundation, First United Methodist Church or the Vintage Park and contributions may be left at the Loran Fawcett Chapel.

Idonna was born Oct. 4, 1915 in Buffalo, to Don and Ida Mae Holcomb. She grew up in Buffalo, and graduated from the Buffalo High School in 1932, and was also the last graduate of the Wilson County Hospital Training School.

On Sept. 16, 1939 Idonna married Fred McCArter in Indepndence. The couple made their home in Neodesha. Fred preceded her in death on Dec. 24, 1981. Idonna worked at the Wilson County Hospital, Standard Oil Company as a plant nurse and for Dr. Stevenson. She was baptized at the age of 12 at the Buffalo Methodist Episcopal Church in Buffalo and later became a member of the First United Methodist Church in Neodesha, Idonna was a member of the Wilson County Hospital Auxiliary, Wilson County Medical Center Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include nephew Norman and wife, Susie Holcomb, of Chanute; nieces Mina Weston and husband, Bill, of Buffalo, and Mary Craddock and husband, Tom, McCune; great-nephews Michael Holcomb and wife, Davetta, of Parkersburg, W.V., Ryan Holcomb and wife, Tammy, Chanute, and Adam Weston and wife, Tanya, of Topeka; great-great-niece Rahley Holcomb of Chanute; great-great-nephews Ryder Holomb of Chanute, and Bradyn Weston of Topeka. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers Hal and Jack Holcomb, and one sister Ethel Holcomb and three siblings who passed away during infancy.
