James L. Rogers Sr., 73, Pittsburg, died Friday, September 5, 2008, at Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center.
He was born April 27, 1935, in Indianola, Okla., to Vealon and Imo Newman Rogers. He attended Porterville, Calif., schools.
He married Nancy Melin in 1955. She died in 1970. He married Marietta Casper on April 2, 1983, in Springville, Calif. She survives.
The couple owned and operated a cafe and bakery in Thayer for a short time.
He was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include three children, James Lynn Rogers Jr., Marquette, Bruce Allen Rogers, Riverside, Calif., and Theresa Diane Peterson, Apple Valley, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Faye Corrigan, Rogers, Ark.; two sisters, Ruthie Cassidy, Porterville, Calif., and Wilma Adkins, Tipton, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today at the Church of Christ in Pittsburg. Burial will follow at Thayer Cemetery under the direction of Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, Pittsburg.
