Jack Leon Schaid, 86, died Monday, March 11, 2013 at Mercy Hospital in Independence. 
He was born Dec. 13, 1926 to Bill and Hazel Schaid in rural Independence.
Jack attended the Riley Grade School, Independence High School, and then earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Pittsburg State Teachers College. During World War II, he joined the Army where he was stationed at Fort Leavenworth where he worked at the United States Disciplinary Barracks (the USDB).
He was the accounting manager and special projects manager at ARCO Pipeline (previously Sinclair Pipeline), retiring in 1984.
August 6, 1950, Jack married Virginia D. Graham. She preceded him in death Nov. 30, 1984.
They had two children, Terrie Royse, Scotman’s Estates, Buffalo, and James Schaid, Spring Hill.
In 1987, Jack married Donna Pasternak who had lost her husband Carl. Her children are Debbie Johnson, Bob Pasternak, Danny Pasternak, all of Independence, and Tammy Leeseberg of Owasso, Okla. A sister, Bessie Evelyn Levens of Wellsville also survives.
Memorial service will be held 11 a.m. today, March 14 at the First United Methodist Church, 200 South Penn, Independence. A visitation will be held before at 10, and graveside service will follow. Webb Rodrick Chapel is in charge.
The family suggests contributions to Jack’s favorite organizations: The American Red Cross, the First United Methodist Church in Independence, and the Zion Lutheran Church, also in Independence.
