Rosemary M. Suckstorf, 77, Thayer, died unexpectedly Friday, March 27, 2009 at the Labette Health Center in Parsons.
She was born near Pierce, Neb., on May 20, 1931 to John H. and Anna J. Dvorak Vyhlidal. Rosemary attended rural elementary schools and Pierce High School. In her youth, she was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church of Pierce.
She was employed by Omaha Cold Storage, Omaha, Neb., and also did work as a children’s nanny and adult caregiver.
She married Ervin Pospisil; they later divorced. On March 6, 1963, she married Martin Suckstorf of Pierce, where she worked alongside her husband with his farming and cattle ranching and she owned and operated a chicken and egg production business.
Upon her husband’s death in 1974, she re-located to Thayer, to be near her oldest son and his family. She then worked as a clerk at Carder’s Philmart Convenience Store in Thayer and as a children’s caregiver.
She is survived by her three children, sons, Ron Vyhlidal, and Carl Suckstorf, both of Thayer, and daughter, Anna Gindlesberger, also of Thayer; three grandsons and six great-grandchildren; a sister, Catherine of Osmond, Nebraska; nieces, nephews and many cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother, a nephew and a son-in-law.
Cremation has taken place.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 4 at the Thayer United Methodist Church. Her cremains have been divided for burial at the Thayer Cemetery and at a later date, at the Lambrecht Cemetery, Pierce, Neb.
Memorials in her name are suggested to the Thayer Fire and Rescue Auxiliary Fund for the purchase of a BCI Digit finger pulse oximeter and may be left at the funeral home or may be mailed to the Thayer Fire & Rescue Auxiliary, P.O. Box 57, Thayer, KS 66776.
