Neva Esther Baum Flottman, 95, Humboldt, died Sunday, September 14, 2008, at the Medical Lodge in Eudora.
She was born five miles west of Humboldt on Nov. 28, 1912, to Charles Edward and Rosa Myrtle Beck Baum.
She married Otto Givin Gurwell on March 26, 1934. He died Dec. 31, 1971. She married Philip Hines Flottman on May 22, 1976. He died Feb. 18, 1996.
She was a farmer’s wife and homemaker.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Humboldt. She also belonged to the United Methodist Womens Quilt Club and was a member of the Iola Beauceant Lodge.
She and Mr. Gurwell belonged to the Trailriders Camping Club. When she and Mr. Flottman were married, they belonged to the Ozark Travelers camping club. Mrs. Flottman has made at least 75 quilts.
Survivors include a nephew and his wife, Robert Alton and Barbara Reed, California; a brother-in-law and his wife, Clayton and Sue Gurwell, Topeka; stepsons, Wayne Flottman and his partner Jim Dawson, Torrance, Calif., and Larry Flottman and his wife Vernis, Lawrence; a stepdaughter and her husband, Judy and Rick Olson, Howard; 11 step-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; and four step-great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Violet; and a step-daughter, Nancy Flottman Blanchard.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Humboldt. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Penwell-Gabel Humboldt Chapel.
Contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Humboldt, or to the Heart of America Hospice in Lawrence, and may be left with the funeral home.
