Nicholas Lee Brown, 30, rural Piqua, died Thursday, April 2, 2009, from injuries he received in a two vehicle accident a mile west of Piqua on U.S. Highway 54. He was born Aug. 29, 1978, at Iola to Nathan L. and Glenda M. Chriestenson Brown. He graduated from Yates Center High School in 1997.
He enlisted in the Kansas Army National Guard before graduating and served six years before being honorably discharged.
He has worked for a number of local oil producers before starting his own companies, B&S Petroleum and Nick Brown Drilling. At the time of his death, he was operating both companies.
He was a member of the Neosho Falls United Methodist Church.
On Dec. 30, 2006, he married Jessica P. Brown at Grace United Methodist Church in Emporia. She survives.
Other survivors include his 18-month-old son, Kevin Lee Brown, of the home; his parents, Nathan and Glenda Brown, rural Yates Center; his grandmother, Juanita Chriestenson, Neosho Falls; his sister and brother-in-law, Melissa and David Jones, Yates Center; niece and nephew, Nolan and Hannah Jones; his in-laws, Gary and Juanita Brown, Olpe; and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Charley Chriestenson, the Rev. and Mrs. Roy L. Brown.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at the Neosho Falls United Methodist. Burial will follow in the Logue Cemetery east of LeRoy under the direction of Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to an education fund for his son, the Kevin L. Brown Education Fund, and may be left with the funeral home.
