Wilma Marion Bennett Lawrence, 85, longtime Toronto resident, died Sunday, April 5, 2009, at Golden Living Center in Fredonia.

She was born July 21, 1923, in Pawnee Rock to Arthur R. and Nellie D. Phillips Bennett.

She was the head cook at the Toronto Schools for many years.

On Oct. 1, 1942, in Victoria, Texas, she married Glenn Albert Lawrence. He died May 4, 2005.

She was a member of the Toronto United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Underwood, Fredonia, and Connie Carter, Wichita; a son, David Lawrence, Independence; a sister, Arlene Hopper, Eureka; 13 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Larry Lawrence; and two brothers, John and Arthur Bennett.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Toronto United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Toronto Cemetery under the direction of Timmons Funeral Home, Fredonia.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.
