Jess L. Coleman, 92, Tara Gardens Residential Care Facility in Iola, died Sunday, April 12, 2009, at Allen County Hospital in Iola.

He was born Nov. 5, 1916, in Higgins, Texas, to Steven and Lucy D. Wilson Coleman.

He married Enola Adams on Sept. 24, 1942, in Wichita. She died on Dec. 26, 2007.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He owned and operated Standard Service Station, Wichita.

Survived by two brothers-in-law, J.Q. Adams Jr., Sand Springs, Okla., and Arliss Adams, Kincaid; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Earl, Frank, Harry and Charles Coleman; and three sisters, Laura Belle, Edith Hurt, and Viola Jones.

Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Lone Elm Cemetery under the direction of Penwell-Gabel Humboldt Chapel.

Contributions to Tara Gardens Residential Care Facility may be left with the funeral home.
