Darrell Don Ross, 86, Iola, died Tuesday, September 23, 2008, at Windsor Place Nursing Center, Iola.

He was born March 25, 1922, at Manhattan to William Joseph and Nola Maude Craig Ross.

He married Elizabeth “Betty” Sicka, Piqua, in October 1950. She died Dec. 19, 2007.

He worked for Leash Oil Company, The Iola Brick Plant, LeHigh Cement Company, IMP Boats and Humboldt High School before he retired.

He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Iola, and enjoyed gardening and entering his produce in the Allen County Fair.

Survivors include four sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Peggy Ross, Moran, Don and Charleen Ross, Topeka, John and Mary Ross, Iola, and Charles and Kathy Ross, Humboldt; three daughters and a son-in-law, Sharon and Ted Engeman, Clarksville, Tenn., Jean Ross, Humboldt, and Joan Ross, Pittsburg; a brother, Willis Ross, Moran; 15 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Donis Colwell; and a grandson, Brian Hegwald.

The parish rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John’s Catholic Church in Iola, followed by the mass at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Martin’s Catholic Cemetery at Piqua.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola.

Contributions to The Allen County Fair Association may be made in care of the funeral home.
