Joseph Thomas Spurling 60, Iola, died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2008 at his home.

He was born on Feb. 2, 1948 in Chanute, to William Thomas and Virginia Arlene Young Spurling.

He had worked in construction dealing with SEKAN asphalt. He had been a member of the United States Army.

On June 7, 2007 he married Ginny Hanna in Gas City.

Survivors include his wife, of the home, Jinny Spurling, his mother, Virginia Duke, Chanute, his father, William Spurling, Fredonia, two stepdaughters, Jeanette Suiter, Pryor Okla.,, and Joanna Morrow, Winfield, Mo.; and 11 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son, Carl Thomas Spurling.

Funeral will be held on Thursday, Oct. 23 at 2 p.m. at the Faith Bible Church, Chanute. Burial will be in the Earlton Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Gibson Chapel.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of Kansas and may be left at the funeral home.

Joe was my step dad for many years and he toyght me and my brothers the values in life ,he was good to us growing up and he will be missed dearly.
