Lila E. Nitchman Peters-Toedman, 90, passed away peacefully into the Loving Arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ, Sept. 5, 2009.
She was born Dec. 5,1918 in Sheridan, Wyoming to John and Dessie (Moody) Nitchman.
Lila was preceded in death by her parents, and stepfather Jack Vestal, her first husband Joseph and second husband Charles Toedman, her brothers, Sheldon Nitchman and Vernon Ward, sisters, Virginia Solberg and Mary Metcalf.
She is survived by her daughter Becke Mandel of Littleton, Co.; sons John Peters and wife Sylvia from Olathe, and Dan Peters from Oakland, Calif.; grandsons Matthew (Bridget), Jason, and Troy; and great-grandsons, Ashton and Evan; and great-granddaughter Maggie.
Lila was active in her church for many years, teaching Sunday School classes and assisting in other areas of church work. She gave to missionaries and orphans. She loved to cook and invite friends in for dinner. She enjoyed gardening and supplying floral arraignments to the church and others locally. She knitted many afghans for her family. In her later years she was able to travel with friends on various tours. One highlight was her tour to Israel. In June of 2008 she traveled with her son John and wife Sylvia to a large family reunion held in Cody, Wyo.
Visitation will be held at the Humboldt Penwell-Gabel chapel today, from 6 to 8 p.m.
The memorial service will be held at the Baptist Church in Humboldt Wednesday, Sept. 9 at 10 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Baptist Church or Allen County Hospice.
