Kayla Marie Walters, 18, Erie, died Sunday, December 13, 2009, as the result of an automobile accident.

She was born May 20, 1991, and attended Altamont Grade School, Labette County High School and graduated from USD 101 in Erie. She earned her CNA certification at Coffeyville Community College.

She worked as a CNA at Tara Gardens in Iola.

Survivors include by her grandparents, John and Karen Walters, Erie; brothers and sisters, James, Erie, and Justin and Kaci, both of Altamont; her dad, David Bertling, Altamont; a great-grandmother, Mary Ellen Walters, Erie; her father, Christopher Hoagland, Erie, other siblings, Chris, Moria and Charles Hoagland; paternal grandparents, Charles and Judy Hoagland, Girard; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Julie Rae Walters.

Cremation has taken place and a private family inurnment will be held at a later date.

The family will receive friends from 2 until 4 p.m. Saturday at Penwell-Gabel Gibson Chapel in Chanute.

Contributions to the Neosho County 4-H Development Fund may be left with the funeral home.
