Marguerite L. Madl, 98, St. Paul, died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009 at the Prairie Mission Retirement Village at St. Paul.
She was born on March 18, 1911 at rural Erie to Fred and Bonnie Havely Whitworth. She grew up at Erie and attended school there graduating from Erie High School in 1929.
She and Louis Madl were married on July 10, 1931 at the St. Francis Catholic Church at St. Paul. She then moved to St. Paul. Her husband preceded her in death on June 18, 1959.
She worked briefly at the Parsons State Hospital and Training Center and then worked at the Living Skills Center at St. Paul for many years. She retired at the age of 83.
She was a member of the St. Francis Catholic Church at St. Paul. She enjoyed reading, watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, and riding her bike which was a lifelong passion. She rode her bike until the age of 94. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She resided at the Prairie Mission Retirement Village at St. Paul for the past 4 ¬Ω years and those who cared for her there were the love of her life.
Survivors include four sons, Ronald Madl and his wife, Phyllis, Altamont, Fred Madl and his wife, Maxine of Kethcum, Okla., Richard Madl and his wife, the late Carol Madl, Joplin, Mo.,, and Tom Madl, St. Paul; two daughters, Jeanie Whiting and her husband, Ray, Humboldt, and Patty Locke, Mapleton; 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by five brothers, one sister, two grandsons and one great-granddaughter.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 17 at the St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul. Burial will follow in the St. Francis Cemetery. The Rosary will be recited at 7 this evening at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home in St. Paul with visitation following.
