Evelyn Pauline Brinkmeyer Thompson, 86, Chanute, died Sunday, January 3, 2010, at the KU Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan.

She was born Dec. 21, 1923, in rural Chanute to John Wesley and Eda Grace Winder Brinkmeyer. She graduated from Chanute Senior High School in 1941 and later attended Neosho County Junior College.

She lived her whole life in Neosho County except for about 12 years in Springfield, Mo., and Overland Park.

She married Wesley Andrew “Tommy” Thompson on March 31, 1946, at the First United Methodist Church in Chanute. He survives.

She was a homemaker.

Evelyn was a member of the First Methodist Church. She also served as Mother Advisor of Rainbow for Girls of Chanute and Worthy Matron and several other offices of the Sunflower Chapter Order of the Eastern Star No. 147, Chanute.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Adathea Gwen Thompson in 1959.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Chanute. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery under the direction of Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel.

Contributions to the Cherry Street Youth Center may be left with the funeral home.
