Garold Max “Jim” Spoon, 78, Wilson County, died unexpectedly Tuesday, January 12, 2010, at Fredonia Regional Hospital.

He was born Oct. 31, 1931, in Fall River to Lester and Alfreda Crawshaw Spoon. He was a 1949 graduate of Fredonia High School.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1951-1953.

For 40 years, Jim worked at General Portland/Lafarge Cement Plant in Fredonia, retiring in 1994 as the store room clerk.

On May 27, 1954, in Fredonia, he married Shirley Cunningham. She survives.

Other survivors include a son, Gary Spoon, Fredonia; a daughter, Sandra “Kate” Dunn, Fredonia; a sister, Lois Matlock, Webb City, Mo.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bob and Dwaine Spoon.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Timmons Funeral Home Chapel, Fredonia.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday.
