Hazel E. Quathamer, 97, Solomon, former longtime Iola resident, died Saturday, November 8, 2008, at Village Manor in Abilene.

She was born May 23, 1911, in Hallam, Neb., to William W. and Lyida Glebe Vitousek. She attended local schools.

She married Geard J. Quathamer on Nov. 20, 1930, in El Dorado. He died in 1969.

She was employed as a certified nurse’s aide in Erie, Chanute and Iola. She was a member of the Christian Church in LaHarpe.

Survivors include a son, Geard Quathamer, Wabaunsee; two daughters, Joan Hoefler, Westphalia, and Geraldine Criswell, Solomon; 14 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lavina Cole; a grandson; two brothers and four sisters.

Funeral was 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church, Abilene. Graveside services and burial will be 1:30 p.m. today at Spring Hill Cemetery, Parsons.
