Alice L. Willitts Luma, 89, LeRoy, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 21, 2010, at the home of her daughter near LeRoy.
She was born April 29, 1920, in Van Wert, Ohio, to the Rev. Jesse and Jolia Pearl Hummel Hunter. She spent most of her early life in Jackson, Mich., and graduated from East Jackson High School.
On Oct. 24, 1936, she married Walter Wayne Willitts at Angolia, Ind. They made their home in Jackson until 1942 when they moved to a farm near Clayton, Mich. He died in 1963.
On Nov. 18, 1967, she married Philip Luma in Clayton and they lived on a farm near Hudson, Mich. He died in 1988.
She was a homemaker and farm wife.
She moved to LeRoy to be close to family and in 2004 she moved to The Meadows retirement center in Burlington. She later became a resident of the Life Care Center in Burlington until moving to her daughter’s home recently.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church and the UMW at LeRoy.
Survivors include a son, Norman “John” Willitts, Chanute; two daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Robert Hutton, Prairie Village, and Judy and Gary Meats, LeRoy; a stepdaughter, Vicki Ladd, Hillsdale, Mich.; a stepson and his wife, Joe and Chris Luma, Friday Harbor, Wash.; 13 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Douglas Willitts, in 2000; two sisters, Thelma Moats and Helen Hanson; and a brother, Floyd “Bud” Hunter.
Visitation and a service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Jones Funeral Home, Burlington. Cremation is planned and inurnment will be in North Dover Cemetery, Clayton, Mich. Arrangements are under the direction of Jones Funeral Home, Burlington.
