James R. Baker, 65, Chanute, died Wednesday, February 3, 2010, at his residence.
He was born Aug. 6, 1944, in Chanute to James P. Baker and Zella L. Wiles Baker. He graduated from Erie High School in 1962.
He married Ruth Taylor on June 21, 1989, in Miami, Okla. She survives.
He worked for the Chanute Fire Department and Cleaver’s Farm and Home Supply.
Other survivors include his mother, Zella Baker, Chanute; a son, Steven Baker, Chanute; four daughters, Ronda Lee, Crystal Cheney and April Goltry, all of Humboldt, and Rebecca Ford, Ottawa; two stepdaughters, Sheila Crowder, Chanute, and Christy Crowder, Oakland, Calif.; two sisters, Nancy Bockover, Chanute, and Mary Jolene, Topeka; three brothers, Charles and Bill Baker, both of Chanute, and Bob Baker, Omaha, Neb.; 12 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a step-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his father and two grandchildren
Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Church of Christ in Chanute. Inurnment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Roper. Arrangements are under the direction of Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel.
Contributions to the Church of Christ may be left with the funeral home.
