Harley Dean Montgomery, 79, Chanute, died Sunday, March 7, 2010 at his home.
Harley was born in Independence on April 2, 1930, the son of Orvil N. and Bertha Montgomery. He attended schools in New Mexico and in Chanute.
He served in the United States Armed Forces for more than 20 years until his retirement.
He was united in marriage to Margie Luella McAfee. They later divorced.
Harley is survived by two sons, Robert “Skip” Montgomery, Lawrence, Gary Steven Montgomery, Lawrence; a daughter, Cathy Lea Montgomery Davis, California; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Harlene Gayle Montgomery, and one sister, Tutie Slater.
Cremation has taken place.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 11 at the Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel.
Memorials in his name may be made to The Boerstler-May Post #170 American Legion or the Cecil J. Meeker Post #1654 V.F.W. and may be left with the funeral home.
