Willard Lee Carter, 86, rural Altoona, died Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at Via Christi St. Francis Burn Center in Wichita.
He was born Oct. 10, 1923, in rural Wilson County to Max and Alice Faye Wiltse Carter. He graduated from Altoona High School in 1942.
On April 23, 1948, in rural Altoona, he married Lucile Myers. She survives.
He was an elder and treasurer of the Altoona Christian Church. He was a farmer until his retirement in 1998 and a member of the National Farmers Organization, where he served as president of the local chapter for a number of years, and the K.O.E.R.A.
Other survivors include six children and their spouses, Steven and Lindsey Carter, Midland, Texas, Carol and Jeff Walker, Olathe, Dwight and Janice Carter, Augusta, Julie and Tom Boren, El Dorado, Neil and Mary Carter, Delano, Minn., and Lyle and Jayne Carter, Sartell, Minn.; 14 grandchildren and their spouses, Rebekah and Shawn Powell, Christa Carter, Paula and Ben Koca, Tim and Lauren Carter, Melody Walker, Jason Walker, Lisa and Luke Wayland, Chad Carter, Melanie and Barry Brown, Natalie andP.J. Faulk, Dana Carter, Alex Carter, Megan Carter and Beth Carter; six great-grandchildren, Claire Koca, Tyler Thompson, Aiden and Miranda Brown, and Caitlin and Paige Faulk.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Wilma Geer.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. today at Altoona Christian Church. Burial will be in the Altoona Cemetery under the direction of Timmons Funeral Home, Fredonia.
No visitation is planned, but friends may sign the register book at the funeral home.
