Velma Pearl Barnett, 96, died Monday, April 5, 2010 at the Pinecrest Nursing Home in Humboldt.

Velma was born in rural Iola on Jan. 2, 1914, the daughter of George W. and Ida Ethel Gedes Culbertson. She attended Onion Creek School and Iola High School.

She was united in marriage to Sam Phillips in 1939. He died in 1958. She was later united in marriage to Lee Chicken in 1959. He died in 1976. She later married Glen Barnett in 1977. He preceded her in death in 1981.

Velma worked as a housekeeper in Iola.

She liked to travel and take pictures.

Velma is survived by two brothers, Kenneth Culbertson, Humboldt, and Vincent Culbertson, Iola.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husbands.

Private family services will be held.

Penwell-Gabel Humboldt Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
