Gene “Andy” Larry Anderson, 72, Chanute, formerly of Topeka, died Sunday, April 11, 2010 at his home in Chanute.
Gene was born in Corcordia on March 13, 1938, the son of David Elmer and Alice Rickson Anderson. He graduated from Topeka High School in the Class of 1956.
He was united in marriage to Doris Ellison on Sept. 21, 1958 at the Nazarene Church in Chanute. They lived in Topeka for 41 years, and traveled for 9 years before moving to Chanute. She survives, of the home.
Gene worked as a receiving clerk for Goodyear Tire and Rubber in Topeka for 44 years.
He was a member of the Nazarene Church and enjoyed traveling and camping.
Along with his wife Doris, he is survived by a son, David B. Anderson and his wife, Lori, Camdenton, Mo.; a daughter, Brenda J. Cope and her fiancé, Randy Strickland, Lawrence; grandchildren, Kayla Dankenbring, Taylor Huffman, Kaitlin Huffman, David Huffman, Jr., Melissa Lones, Jason Dankenbring, Andrew Dankenbring, Cassie Narin and Adam Strickland; and great-grandchildren, Rylan Haid, Cami Narin, Micha Goodner, Austin Strickland, Caiden Lones and Alli Brown.
He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Alice Anderson; a sister, Dorothy M. Thomas, two brothers-in-law, Wes Jackett and Larry Ellison; and two sisters-in-law, Diane Ellison and Beatrice Goodsell.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 14 at the First Nazarene Church in Chanute. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends this evening from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Gibson Chapel.
Memorials in his name may be made to Horizon Hospice and may be left with the funeral home.
